Bladder "Norms"
Oct 20, 2021
Every body and every lifestyle looks a little different, but there are vague guidelines that we use to measure bladder health. Take a look at these "norms" below and reach out if you fall outside them and would like to discuss the possibilities as to why.
- Urinating 5-8x during the day, every 2-5 hours
- 0-1 nighttime voids (not applicable to pregnancy and post-menopause)
- No hesitancy in starting the flow of urine
- No leaking with jumping, sneezing/coughing, lifting, or with urgency
- Able to completely empty your bladder without pushing or straining
- No "just in case" peeing
Keep in mind, these are just guidelines and it's best to sit down with a pelvic floor PT and go over a bladder diary together, so you can fully understand any issues that may be appearing. Be wary of saying, "Oh, I just pee all the time because I drink a lot of water." Very rarely is this actually the case. Your bladder most likely can hold around 15-20 oz. If you have questions, shoot over an email and we can discuss what path will best address your bladder complaints.
If you want to learn to regain total control of your bladder, The Bladder Project is right up your ally. I created it to help women go from the very foundations of rebuilding their core and bladder habits, all the way to running and jumping leak-free!
